The Best Way To Prepare Pumpkin Puree

Do you want to make delicious pumpkin puree but are not sure where to start? Many people struggle to “get it right” so we’ve put together these methods that will get you the best results making pumpkin puree every time.

Ingredients

Any pumpkin or winter squash

Method Of Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Wash your pumpkin off. This is very important should you recently snagged your pumpkin from the farm and it is still somewhat muddy.
  • Cut the pumpkin in half and scoop the seeds out. Place those aside for roasting later.
  • Cut the pumpkin into quarters, then cut each quarter into a few medium-sized pieces.
  • I love to add just a little water into the baking sheet (just enough to cover the ground) which keeps the pumpkin from sticking while it bakes.
  • Bake the pumpkin to get 40 to 45 minutes, until the pumpkin is tender. Stick a fork in the thickest piece to double check how tender it is.

Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let cool for a couple of minutes. Transfer the pumpkin bits to a food processor and puree until smooth. Based on how much pumpkin you have baked, and how big your food processor is, you may have to get this done in two rounds.

Once you’ve got puree, place it in an airtight container and store in the fridge. The sip will save for a couple of days in the refrigerator. If you would like to maintain the sip longer than this, store in the freezer. For simplicity, you might want to think about storing it in tiny batches (such as: 1 cup parts) to make it simple to defrost the ideal amount next time that you would like to utilize a few.

Extra Helpful Tips:

  • make sure that the pumpkin is still warm for best results
  • you can chop the pulp into small chunks to make puree easier
  • consider cutting the entire pumpkin in half, then baking for softer pulp
  • if you find pulp is too firm you can simmer in saucepan medium heat 20 minutes
