This skin layer consists mainly of connective tissue, i.e., collagen and elastin fibers, and the so-called fibroblasts, which produce this connective tissue. Already from the age of 25, collagen and elastin production steadily decreases. In addition, hyaluronic acid production slows down, and the skin cells bind less water. Skin aging in the subcutis

The subcutis or lower layer of the skin consists mainly of loose connective tissue, fat cells (adipocytes), and blood vessels. The lipid cells decrease, and there is a loss of volume, which manifests itself, for example, in deep wrinkles or sunken skin areas.
